Measure the Wave Before Collapse

Sometimes an idea does not arrive as an idea. It arrives as a pattern that has been quietly repeating itself in different languages.

I had been building 5M for a very practical reason: there are thousands upon thousands of companies in the investible universe, and no human can examine all of them deeply. I have had spent many years to find a better way to sort the universe — not as a machine with Oracle lens - that will make it less fun, but as a research net that could tell me where to cast.

Then, somewhere while bouncing ideas with ChatGPT, something more concrete began to solidify.

And I suddenly realized that again the 5M is just another song of the same rhyme.

That convergence from 5M to GoF — Gods-of-Fortune — enables re-phrasing 5M in more contemporary lingua franca of quantum probability.

Alas, it is the same song in three different vocabularies.

I. I Was Only Trying to Sort 10,000 Stocks

The original problem is almost simple but not easy.

If there are 10,000 companies, we do not need to know everything about every company. We need a mechanism that can compress the universe sufficiently well that the most interesting possibilities survive the compression.

5M is not looking to be absolutely right. It's job is to surface out the future titans of the universe.

A score of 21 rather than 20 does not need to mean that one company is objectively superior by some metaphysical quantity. The score is primarily a sorting instrument.

The real question is:

Can the framework concentrate enough signal into the Top N to make deeper attention worthwhile?

False positives and false negatives are not fatal. A false positive tells us that the framework saw something reality did not validate. A false negative tells us that reality produced something the framework failed to see. Both are feedback.

II. The Last Mile of Accuracy

There is no irony here whereby absolute accuracy implies an asymptote to impossibility - just an expression of the S-Curve phenomena.

One has to spend enormous energy or time deciding whether a company deserves 21.3 or 21.7 when both land comfortably inside the Top 100, and by the time of absoulte computation, the system has re-equilibrated.

The last mile of precision may cost more than the alpha it creates.

Be approximately right cheaply at scale; become more precisely right only where it matters.

5M is therefore, at its core, an attention-allocation mechanism.

III. The News Started Speaking Before the Numbers

A positive announcement is one thing. A sequence of positive fundamental developments is another.

Consider order wins. What matters may not be a single large order. It may be the pattern:

     acceleration?
          ↓
      trajectory

Perhaps the interesting question is not “Will the share price rise?” but:

Is the fundamental trajectory continuing?

Numbers are what I have been calling as tags to pre-numbers: macro conditions, management action, customer behaviour, orders, contracts, capacity, execution — the things that eventually become revenue, earnings and cash flow.

From 5M, this added two other supporting lenses: 5M looks into the company. Focus Themes looks across the world. News Flow looks through time.

IV. The Serendipitous Sentence

The language of choice creates consequent chain of thoughts - and when congruent and coherent allows new pathways of re-thinking the same idea:

Compress the universe without destroying the signal.

That sentence describes the practical problem almost perfectly.

But immediately another formulation appeared:

Measure the wave before collapse.

The contemporary language of quantum probability offers a vivid vocabulary for thinking about possibility, observation, state and resolution. It is a useful finger pointing at a much wider question.

Before the universe is compressed into our chosen decision, there is a possibility space. Our job is not necessarily to preserve every possibility. It is to avoid destroying the useful signal before we have had a chance to observe it.

V. What You Prompt Is What You Get

This is where AI enters the story in a way that I have been observing.

“What you prompt is what you get.”

Many see it as prompt engineering: ask better questions and receive better answers.

An AI model may contain an enormous latent space of learned relationships and possibilities. Yet no response can collapse the totality of that space into a single point. It has to compute a response conditioned on the state of the inquiry.

The prompt supplies that state.

Change the question, context, assumptions, vocabulary or constraints, and a different projection can emerge from the same underlying model.

This means one can box AI as a mere compute machine, reflecting the engineering mindset of the querent, but if we see it from a non-mechanical lens, AI is also a statistical response mirror, aka external cognitive surface.

The response changes the state of the person asking. That changed state produces the next question. The next question produces another projection. The conversation becomes a moving observation surface.

VI. 东风

GoF — Gods-of-Fortune(an app coming soon) — I have been exploring what I now call quantum-meta-physics, rather than meta-physics with similar vocabulary on a different domain.

One of its synchronous ideas is embedded in the word fortune itself:

fore-tune — what precedes; the prior configuration.
for-tune — what aligns; the favourable configuration.
fortune — what manifests from space(for-tune)-time(fore-tune) collision.

And then there is 东风 — the East Wind.

东风 is the moment when the conditions are right for a Super-Returns-Stock to set sail - The coherence and congruence of the different vocabularies is indeed Magnificent.

VII. The Three Fingers

There is never a single finger that can point accurately to the moon.

Relying upon a finger, we see the moon
Relying upon the moon, we understand the finger.
Moon and finger
Are neither the same nor different.
This expedient analogy is for guiding beginners.
Having seen reality as it is,
There is neither moon nor finger.

5M is one finger. GoF is another. Quantum probability is another. Each points at something larger than itself.

“The finger is not the moon.”

Looking backwards, the progression seems obvious, albeit un-conventional to typical mainstream:

In the quantum vocabulary, we find another way to finger point.

X. A Post, An Akashic Record

It looks like this is an interesting and novel way to look at the problem of searching for the next SRS stock.

This post is to imprint a golden moment, simply because the arrival here depends on a particular start, arc, and point of time, which might not be repeatable, and it is also not guaranteed that these ideas can be Manifested out into the future.
